Welcome to part 3 of my 4 part series on my ranking of E3 2018's press conferences. I'm not going to explain how this list works because I have in my previous two parts. If you want to read them and see who has taken the bottom five positions, you can read part 1 here and part 2 here. Anything else I have to say is probably already said in the previous two parts, so let's get started.
When it comes to press conferences at E3, leave it to Ubisoft to entertain. The big reason this press conference is so high on the list is because they actually try to make things fun and entertaining. Whether you like or hate the dancing panda for Just Dance, you have to at least appreciate the fact that they try. Plus, Ubisoft has also done a good job at being personal. Whether it be Guillemot and Miyamoto meeting up again on stage once again or the feeling that they are trying harder than most to show that video games are a work of love by humans, Ubisoft has done a great job at making a solid press conference. But they are missing one key ingredient: new game announcement. There were not very many games talked about on stage, and the amount of new games talked about were even fewer. Overall, I would say that this press conference is solid and would be better if there was more content. Let's move on to the ranking.
13. Just Dance 2019
I appreciate the effort given to this announcement, but a dancing panda isn't going to make me get this game any time soon.
12. Rainbow Six Siege
I am not a fan of the game, and the stage presence was just for announcing a documentary and competition dates.
11. For Honor
The time I have had with this game isn't bad, and at least they had some new content to talk about. Plus, they are giving out the starter edition for free, and free things are great things.
10. The Division 2
I actually have very little interest in this game. My time with the first Division was fine, but I am tired of this kind of experience. Still, I think the D.C. location is neat. Thanks, but no thanks.
I heard some negative things about this game last year, but I am still interested in seeing what is to come of this game.
8. Space Junkies
Finally, a VR shooter game. Why didn't I think of this earlier? Still, the environments look pretty.
7. Beyond Good and Evil 2
I enjoyed playing the first game, and I am excited for the second game. But I also know this game is not coming out any time soon, and I am more skeptical than excited with its pairing with Hit Record.
6. Star Link: Battle For Atlas
The game looks pretty fun and I am interested in seeing how this toys-to-life game works in a time when a lot of other toys-to-life games are failing.
5. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: Donkey Kong Adventure
I had a fun time with the main game, and I am looking forward to this DLC release. Plus, I like the tropical setting and Donkey Kong.
4. Trials Rising
I still haven't played a Trials game, so maybe this is game that gets me in.
3. Skull and Bones
Every time I look at this game, it shows new levels of promising. I am interested in seeing how this game turns out and I can't wait to try it out.
2. The Crew 2
I'm interested in seeing its large open world and its transitions from vehicle to vehicle. Plus, it's coming out really soon.
1. Assassin's Creed Odyssey
I haven't played Origins yet, but I heard great things about it. So that plus the Greek setting (a setting I prefer) sounds like a lot of fun.
That concludes the Ubisoft section. Now time for an intermission while the conference moves from one conference room to the next. Uhhh, quick; put in some trailers or something. Oh, wait, now we are back. Onto to the next press conference.
To say that Sony's press conference is weird is an understatement. And unfortunately, it isn't weird in a good way. I'll give them props for trying something new with what they were trying to do, but it didn't work so well. The structure was weird and inconsistent, and the attendees were probably not happy considering they had to move around and they saw a little less than the stream watchers who watched an awkward intermission. Also, the amount of games was lacking as well. But their short-comings were more than made up for with what games they showed. Overall, the saving grace of this otherwise poor press conference are some excellent games shown. So, let's get into those games shown, shall we?
15. Destiny 2: Forsaken
I recently played through Destiny 2, and I honestly didn't like it that much. It was better than my experience with the first game, but it still wasn't great. So I am quite alright with not going back into the game.
14. Trevor Saves the Universe
I am not a fan of that style of comedy, and I am not a fan of the gameplay shown. No thanks.
From Software being behind this game is probably the most exciting thing I got out of the trailer, but that's about it.
12. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
I am more interested in seeing where this game goes and what is to come of this game than playing the game itself.
11. Kingdom Hearts 3
I have this so high because I haven't played the previous games, but luckily this trailer had an addition that got me a little more excited.
10. Death Stranding
Still not enough. By this rate I don't expect the game to come out until 2030. Also, I want to know more about the Mads Mikkelsen side of the game.
I am interested to see what is to come of this game, but I am marking it down a bit for doing all of those dumb five second videos throughout the presentation.
This game looks weird, but this time it's weird in a good way. Breathing guns anyone?
7. Nioh 2
I haven't played the first game, but I heard great things. Because of that, I am excited for this game.
6 and 5. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.8
I have ranked Kingdom Hearts 3 multiple times, and every time I have said I haven't played the previous games. Now is my chance.
4. Resident Evil 2 Remastered
I'm not as excited as others because I haven't played the original version, but I still think this game looks great and I am excited to see what is to come of the game.
This presentation actually got me more excited for Spiderman, and it being just around the corner makes it all-the-better.
2. The Last of Us 2
This game shows a lot of promise and even the little details like environmental combat and how characters react to taking damage was really interesting to see. But what keeps this game at number two is the fact that I don't think this game needs a sequel, and the fact that number one wowed me in a way few game announcements ever have before.
1. Ghosts of Tsushima
What started as an afterthought soon turned into, well, number one on this list. This game is gorgeous and I am incredibly excited to see what is to come gameplay-wise. When that scene where the two fought underneath the tree with the raining leaves got me all-in on the game.
And that concludes Sony's press conference. But now it's time to look at the press conference after that. And it's the one you (maybe) keep thinking about.
Despite a surprise Rage 2 leak, Bethesda was on their feet and still delivered new game announcements. What they showed at the press conference was exciting, and the f*ck-it tone they took with the announcement was interesting to watch. Plus, some other things like some genuinely funny jokes made the press conference better. But a lot of cheesy moments and some other funny moments (cough cough Andrew W.K. playing to a stone-faced crowd) made things more awkward. Their list of games was small as well, but most of the games shown were exciting. Overall, a solid press conference. Let's get into the list.
14. Elder Scrolls Legends
I tried it. I didn't like it. Moving on.
13. Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset
I haven't played ESO, and I no plans to play it. This piece of DLC isn't going to change that.
12. Fallout Shelter
I'll admit it: I got it on the Switch as soon as it came out. But just like the previous time I tried it, I played it for an hour and moved on.
11. Skyrim: Very Special Edition
Hahaha they are making fun of themselves about releasing Skyrim over and over again! I actually found this to be really funny, and... wait, they actually made it a thing? They just ruined their own joke. Great. Still neat that they put it out though.
10. Quake Champions
The game looked alright to me, but I never really had a big interest. But hey, a free game is a free game, sooo.
9. Elder Scrolls: Blades
I actually think this game looks neat. Town restoration mixed with dungeon crawling sounds like something I could get into.
8. Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot
I thought the dog-riding part in Wolfenstein 2 was kind of fun, so I am interested in seeing how this turns out. One thing I thought would be cool though is if their is a pistol holstered by the side of the dog for you to shoot dudes while you burn and crush other dudes.
7. Elder Scrolls 6
I am excited for a new Elder Scrolls game, but I decided to keep this game so high on this list because I don't think this game is coming out any time soon.
6. Star Field
Even if this game was coming out later than ES 6, I would still be more excited for it because I want to see a new IP from Bethesda. Still, I don't think this game is coming out any time soon either.
5. Wolfenstein 2: Youngblood
I have really enjoyed the new Wolfenstein games throughout the years, so I am excited to jump into this game. But I also think this won't be as good as an experience as the previous games.
4. Prey: Mooncrash
I liked Prey a lot and I will take any excuse I can get to dive right back in.
3. Fallout 76
I am really interested in seeing how this game turns out, but what keeps this game at number three are the big changes they are making to the game. I am fine with them trying crazy new things, but I think that the changes they are making aren't so positive for me at least. Especially with the nuke thing. I can see that being fun for five seconds before it turns to you being nuked constantly. Let's hope I am wrong.
2. Rage 2
Yes, I liked the first Rage; and yes, I am excited for Rage 2. Fight me.
1. Doom Eternal
New Doom, hell yeah! Time to kick ass on Earth.
Well, that concludes Part three of four. I think it's pretty easy to guess who number one is, but do tune in for the ranking of games. If you have your own ranking of these lists, do put it in the comments. Thank you for tuning in and I will see you soon for the final part of my press conference ranking.
Part four here.
